Policy & Plan

1.0 Purpose

This 2017-2021 accessibility plan outlines the policies and actions that Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will put in place to improve opportunities for people with disabilities.

2.0 Our Commitment

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. is committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

3.0 Accessible Emergency Information

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. is committed to providing the customers and clients with publicly available emergency information in an accessible way upon request. We will also provide employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when necessary.

4.0 Training

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will provide training to employees, volunteers and other staff members on Ontario’s accessibility laws and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities. Training will be provided in a way that best suits the duties of employees, volunteers, and other staff members.

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will take the following steps to ensure employees are provided with the training needed to meet Ontario’s accessible laws by March 8, 2017:

  • Train management, sales, customer service staff on AODA
  • And thereafter, train new staff within a week of hire or within a week of a change in job duties (as applicable)

5.0 Information and Communications

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities. We will consult with people with disabilities to determine their information and communication needs.

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will take the following steps to make all new websites and content on those sites conform with WCAG 2.0, Level A by January 1, 2021:

  • Incorporate WCAG 2.0 requirements into any planned website revisions
  • Create a plan for future compliance

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will take the following steps to make ensure existing feedback processes are accessible to people with disabilities upon request by March 8, 2017:

  • Inform customers with disabilities of the several available methods of providing feedback, inquire if assistance is needed and provide accommodation if possible

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will take the following steps to make sure all publicly available information is made accessible upon request by March 8, 2017:

  • Provide all publicly available product information in a variety of formats
  • Accommodate requests for information in different formats upon request where possible

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will take the following steps to make all websites and content conform with WCAG 2.0, Level AA by January 1, 2021:

  • Create a plan for future compliance

7.0 Employment

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. is committed to fair and accessible employment practices.

We will take the following steps to notify the public and staff that, when requested, Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will accommodate people with disabilities during the recruitment and assessment processes and when people are hired:

  • Use an Application Form that states PLP welcomes all applicants and does not discriminate in the recruitment process based on prohibited grounds
  • Inform candidates in job postings that accommodation is available in the recruitment, assessment and hiring process
  • Inform new employees that accommodation is available to help them perform well in their new roles
  • Modify our emergency preparedness plans to ensure individualize emergency plans are available for employees who may need accommodation in an emergency due to a disability
  • Train and assign employees who will assist employees and customers with disabilities in an emergency

Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. will take the following steps to develop and put in place a process for developing individual accommodation plans and return-to-work policies for employees who have been absent due to a disability:

  • Approve, implement and ensure managers are trained on our policy and procedure for developing individual accommodation plans by March 30, 2017
  • Approve, implement and ensure managers and employees are trained on return-to-work policies and procedures for employees who have been absent due to a disability by March 30, 2017

We will take the following steps to ensure the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities needs are considered if Preformed Line Products (Canada) Ltd. is using performance management, career development and redeployment processes:

  • Inform employees that accommodation is available during performance management, career development and redeployment processes
  • Survey employees about accessibility needs and put policies and practices in place to support accommodation during performance, development and job changes.

Preformed Line Products Ltd will take the following steps to prevent and remove other accessibility barriers identified:

  • None identified currently, but we will review our policies and practices regularly, survey employees and ask customers, then take steps as needed to remove identified accessibility barriers
